FILM / VIDEO

I began independent film/video prior to my work in photography, drawing or painting. I first began as a screenwriter with mentoring by a major motion picture director. This section of the site provides streaming video of projects I’ve mounted in the realms of documentary, video art, video-journalism and  narrative shorts. My most powerful early impression of visual art was always cinema. Cinema is the ultimate genre..only cinema simultaneously embodies all the arts in  a visual representation that exist’s in both real time and historical splendor.

THE FOLLOWING CLIP IS A TRAILER FOR THE FILM, “RHYTHM & PAIN” .. WHICH WON “BEST IN SHOW” AT THE DELAWARE ART MUSEUM IN 2008-2009.

“Rhythm & Pain” explores cross-cultural New York City drummer Rudy Walker’s life of performing through pain, and how the Dizzy Gillespie Foundation & the Jazz Foundation of America rescued him from the agony of his ecstasy. “Rhythm & Pain” cross-fertilizes the music and cinema scene to remind us of the very source of rhythm, and the ‘universality of suffering’.

This is a ‘Demo Reel’ from when I lived in the East Village (of Greenwich Village, New York City). It includes a sequence of live music performances ranging from the Continental nightclub in downtown New York City on 3rd Ave and St. Marks Pl. and other NY locales, showcasing projects such as rock concerts, videography, music & social documentaries, trailers, title-work, editing etc.  …

I’ve lived in so many districts in the city that it as though traveling in a caravan throughout an entire continent…(including the Grand Concourse in the Bronx, the Alexander Hamilton area of Harlem, Bedford Stuyvesant (before it and BillyBurg became the rave), Crown Heights, The Village, 5th Avenue in the Murray Hill district, Queens Village, Forest Hills, Sunset Park, Park Slope/Prospect Heights, Tribeca etc.)

This reel, which I call “The Continental” represents only one stage in fact of my downtown art era’s that were emblamatic imprints onto not only my artistic sensibilities but an amalgamation of musical and sociologically interwined cultures and trends that I live through.
